New Photos: Raindrop Studies

Paula & Khadi

I love taking pictures of children. Contrary to adults, who will always know I’m there and act differently in front of the camara, I find it really easy to capture real emotions among kids.

These two girls are best friends and super cute together. I love the contrast of their skin and hair color.

All these shots were taken with my Nikon D300 and favourite portrait lense, the Nikkor 50mm 1.4.

Nathalie and Oliver

I really loved this shooting! It was so much fun and the photos turned out to be beautiful. I’m always happy when the customers like their photos but if the shots are also useful for my portfolio – thats a nice bonus. I’m really happy to finally have some nice “couple” shots.

I was actually really nervous before as it was my first real couple shooting and I didn’t know if I could really catch the chemistry between them naturally. But it worked!

I also found a new trick to have people naturally laughing: I tell them to do a big smile, they do it and it looks really fake. They instantly feel awkward and because of that they start laughing. Naturally. It always works. Even better when I laugh with them. So here are the photos. Enjoy.

A night at the river

These pictures were taken at a beach party at the Rhine in Cologne. This is the first time I used my small Canon Ixus for anything but snapshots and I’m actually pleased with the outcome.

(Photos have been processed with Lightroom using a preset)

Raindrops

These pictures were taken with my new Nikkor 70-210mm f/4-5.6. I got it from Ebay for only 70€ and I love it. It is built really solid and takes very sharp pictures.

I’m normally not a fan of zoom lenses but this one is impressive. In some occasions I even prefer it to my 50mm f/1.4. Especially for the photos of Paula sitting in the cherry tree, there is no way I could have used the 50mm. At least not without climbing up there myself ;)

These pictures were all processed with Adobe Lightroom which does wonders for me. I downloaded some really nice presets here.

Tell me your thoughts.
